Paragliding State of Origin 2026
Dates : Easter : 3rd - 5th April 2026
Location : Mt Borah, Manilla NSW. Event Centre at FlyManilla HQ.
For the Novice (PG2), it’s a great way to get into competition and XC flying in a fun & safe way, it’s about the promotion of skills and safely. This competition is based on 'Flying Crews' (5 pilot teams, 1 PG5 pilot. & 2 PG2 pilots & then 2 other Pilots), so get your crew together. Handicapping is used for scoring.
*** IMPORTANT NOTICE *** : PILOT SKILL MINIMUMS for various glider levels
To promote and improve safety in the sport the MSS Club reserves the right to not permit pilots to fly from Mt Borah if they are using a glider above their logged skill level.
Generally that means the following minimums:
EN-B (Std/Low) : PG2 newly rated pilot showing exceptional airmanship in the top 20% of assessed skill level at the end of a course (ie 80% of new PG2 pilots should be flying a EN-A !). Flying coastal and inland regularly. If you are not at this minimum level then you should be flying an EN-A inland.
EN-B (Mid/High) : PG4 pilot with around 80-100hrs logged over a minimum of 2 years flying
EN-C (Std 3 & 2.5 liners) : PG5 pilots with min 250hrs and min 5 years flying
EN-C (High - 2 liners) and EN-D : PG5 pilots with min 500hrs and min 5 years flying (ie flying at least 100hrs/year)
If you do not fit the skill level requirement for a certain glider level then you should contact the person who sold you the unsuitable glider for a remedy.
SAFA Competition "C" Grade Sanction.
Requirements : Reserve, UHF Radio and at least 10 hours of Thermalling/XC Flights are required. Thermalling/XC course is recommended.
Entry Fee: $35.00
Registration: Opens 9:00am 3rd March 2026

Pilot Classes:
In previous years there has been debate about the 'EN-B+' glider class. If a brand has 2 (or even 3) gliders certified in EN-B then the ones with the higher aspect ratio are usually the 'B-mid' or 'B+' and require a PG4 and around 80-100hrs experience to safely fly in all conditions. Another way to identify a 'B-mid' and 'B+' is that a standard EN-B is suitable as a first glider for new pilots straight from school who are well skilled, a 'B-mid' or 'B+' is not suitable for such pilots as their first glider. If you have been sold or are flying a High B glider and do not have around 80-100hrs you will not be permitted to fly at Mt Borah.
IMPORTANT NOTICE : To promote safety in the sport the MSS Club reserves the right to not permit pilots to fly from Mt Borah if they are using a glider above their logged skill level.
